MUSIC VIDEO STRUCTURE ANALYSIS: JUMPIN' JUMPIN'

I used Destiny's Child 'Jumpin' Jumpin' to start off my analysis of the codes and conventions of the R & B genre. This video takes on a narrative style, Destiny's Child also integrate performance too. I noticed that a lot of Destiny's Child's videos/songs have a motif of independent women, this one is no exception. The women in the video are empowered, a key theme of R & B videos. Goodwin's theory of disjuncture doesn't really apply, the narrative and lyrics work in a compatible synergy, hence creating an intimate medium and amplifying the lyrics.

In this prezi, I have displayed my analysis of Lauryn Hill's 'Doo Wop'. I found that this video takes on a narrative style, but again is a hybrid with integrated scenes of performance. Moreover, this is clearly a key genre characteristic. Again, the narrative of the contrast between black culture in the 70s and the 90s is very central to the production, rather than any contradicting visuals. Unconventionally, Lauryn doesn't feature much in the video herself, instead the encoded meaning is more important.
