DOCUMENTARY: SUMMARY OF CODES & CONVENTIONS

Image
I decided to culminate all of my findings into a visual representation of the codes and conventions. It will be really useful to look back on all of my findings and research into the genre when I start making my final artefacts. The video is a chance to pull all the research together and make conclusions about the form of the genre as well as what the audience expect from an R&B genre.

AUDIENCE FOCUS GROUP

I used my focus group to gain more qualitative data about my audience's visions of the music video. It was really useful to have an interactive session with the demographic and gain more of an insight into what they expect from an artist.

VISUAL REPRESENTATION: DEMOGRAPHIC

Image
I used Canva to create a collage which provided a visual representation of who I anticipate my audience to be. Signifiers that allude to technology are a useful reference as to how my teen audience have very much been impacted by digitalisation, I'll be hopefully appealing to a very technology savvy group. I've also included the most popular artists based on my survey as well as how my audience seem themselves; people like Beyonce are aspired to and well known characters from programmes like Skins are how a lot of of members see themselves.

AUDIENCE SURVEY ANALYSIS

After analysing my results, it has given me a much better insight into my demographic. I can see what kind of expectations the audience has for the video, a hybrid style is definitely the most popular style. It's also useful to note that Beyoncé is the most popular artist and a lot of my audience class themselves as aspirers, which reflects the convention of material things being incentivising for example flash cars etc. Over three quarters of respondents watch videos on Youtube which shows how important the visual iconography is. Beyoncé and Rihanna's print adverts were the most popular, both of which are the most conventional of the genre. So, overall, based on the analysis, I would lean towards the more conventional side of R&B productions in order to sell the artist.
